Can I Purchase The Abortion Pill Online In Florida?
The “Heartbeat Protection Act” passed May 2023 requires medications intended for use in a medical abortion be dispensed in-person by a physician. Receiving the pills in-person reduces the risks associated with taking the pills with an ectopic pregnancy, an STI, a pregnancy further along than expected, or other pregnancy complications.
Options for Women offers free pre-termination evaluations which provides a confirmation of pregnancy and ultrasound exam to reveal if your pregnancy is viable. Our clinic does not refer to or provide abortions.
What is the Abortion Pill?
The abortion pill is the name of two different medications that are used to chemically terminate a pregnancy, mifepristone and misoprostol. The first pill (mifepristone) blocks progesterone going to the pregnancy causing it to stop growing. The second pill (misoprostol) causes the uterus to contract to expel the pregnancy. Misoprostol is usually taken 24-48 hours after mifepristone.
Because there are risks associated with the medication, it is important to receive accurate medical information about your health.
Our medical team can provide a free ultrasound to determine how far along you are and whether you are at risk of an ectopic pregnancy.
If you have any questions, please contact our clinic and one of our nurses can provide answers.
